Lahm: Penalties would suit Germany
Philipp Lahm Germany captain has started criminal mind games with England before the second round clash on Sunday, saying a shooting would "get" their side.
Germany beat England is out of the famous 1990 World Cup and Euro 1996 tournament on penalties, and 2010 versions of each team are even, after mixed results in the group stage, a shootout in Bloemfontein is a real possibility .
The England coach Fabio Capello has named his five penalty takers preferred future practice and found it to penalties after every workout. No wonder - England have fallen for the past two World Cups of sanctions, including a shocking 3-1 defeat against Portugal in penalty kicks in 2006, when the current team mates Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher all missed . Germany scored in the last 12 penalties in shootouts and Lahm is happy to talk to the perceived benefits.
Lahm said: "Maybe going to punish - that forms us. I think we are mentally well, we're ready. We practice penalties sometimes, not all players, but sometimes. I hope that English is not so satisfied. C 'is a great story (between the teams) are always great games, interesting. Let's see, we are ready to fight. Then we see that the next round.''
Joachim Löw identified as Wayne Rooney, England gun''in "great, despite their mediocre form in the tournament so far, and Lahm agrees that it is a man to watch.
Asked if the man from Manchester United was the greatest threat to Germany Lahm said: "Yes, indeed, is a good striker, who scored many goals this year. 'S a great player and great players in scoring important runs. But there are (Steven) Gerrard, (Frank) Lampard, (James) Milner, each player plays in the Premier League, so every player is a good player. They have the best players playing at the highest level. All of them play in the Premier League, so I think we are his favorite.''
German winner in their 1-0 victory in the group stage, Ghana was marked by the Werder Bremen player Mesut Özil Lahm and sees it as a great man in the plans of the National Mannschaft.
"It's a good player, always wants the ball, has good technique and scores goals, Lahm''ha said." He is a different type of game to others and is an important player for us. I think it might be one of the best. He is still young, has talent, good talent, so we'll see. This is her third year in the Bundesliga and then we will see in the coming years.''
Özil took a shot in the match against Ghana and will be reviewed by team medical staff, while Jerome Boateng suffered a back injury and Bastian Schweinsteiger has suffered a muscular problem. The Germans have been affected before the tournament began with his usual captain, Michael Ballack, ruled by an ankle injury suffered in the FA Cup final.
Lahm said: "Ballack is an important player for us, who also plays in the Premier League. It will not be easy without him, young players look to him, so it's easy for us.''
Özil expected a tough match for Germany against England, adding: "It's going to be tough against England, is significantly stronger than Ghana, very strong. But if our forces in the field I'm sure going to win, too." '
